Ben Boe podcast

NP16 | Ben Boe
Next up Ben boe owner, manager and A&R of boe recordings, one of the UKs most respected young house music labels. Since 2007, boe has pushed the 12” format with releases from KiNK, Kris Wadsworth, Leif, & Iron Curtis to name a few and more recently Perseus Traxx, Ladzinski and Nite Vision. With a keen ear for emerging talent and originality within a genre keen on revival, Ben has neatly crafted a brand and image for his label that reflects proper, no nonsense house music that has been played and charted by DJs such as Fred P, Doc Martin, Sven Weisemann, Sebo K , Gerd & Domenic Cappello as well as featuring in the recommended and top sales charts for deep house on the Juno Records website.

As a DJ, Ben has been collecting records since the late 90s, influenced by trips to Hard Times and Back to Basics in Leeds and the raw US house and garage sounds of the time. Having moved to London in 2003, Ben plays out rarely, choosing parties for the vibe, intimacy and music policy. His sound is a deep mix of old and new and can easily cross between Chicago Jack to New York Garage and Detroit Electro to Dub Techno whilst still retaining a low-slung dance floor groove.

NP15 | Bu$

Costantinos Budolas also know as “Bu$” was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. Now Thessaloniki might not be the first place that comes to mind when speaking about Techno, but at the end of the 90′s names like Derrick May, Kevin Sauderson, Jeff Mills and Adam Beyer visited the city regularly and along with local techno DJs Dim DJ & Pici, inspired a whole new generation with electronic music. When Costa visited Fabric, The End, the Lost Parties & Velvet Rooms in London during 2001, he decided to move to London the very next year, where he also started collecting vinyl. After finishing his studies, he founded the deep house & techno imprint Bliq Records along with good friend El Freak. The labels focuses in supporting new & upcoming talents and with two out of four releases of the label already in the Top 20 Most Charted Deep House releases for 2011 in Juno.co.uk things look very promising. Staying true to the heritage of electronic music Bliq tries to maintains a low profile and focus on the music rather than advertisement and promotion. The releases are in vinyl only, in attempt to support the original medium used by DJs.

NP09 | Back to back Guest Mix from 2DeepSoul

2DeepSoul is a collaboration between Brad Peterson and Rai Scott. Brad’s attention was captured by the many different styles of early electronic music of the North American Midwest and Southeast warehouse parties of the early to late 90’s. He started djing and experimenting with his own productions in 1992. Since 1997 he has had various releases on labels such as MacIntosh Music, Moods and Grooves, AMR and even his own imprint (now defunct) X-World Communications. Brad’s influences range from the deep and lush sounds of Larry Heard, to the hi-tech grooves of UR, house music, and various electronic music which emerged from the UK in the 90’s. Add to that, his love for the 60’s – 70’s jazz era and you get a sound that defines a diverse music producer as well as dj.
Rai got her start in the free party scene in the U.K. In the late 90’s and on into the early 2000 era, she was a regular dj at several outdoor free parties. She was also a busy underground dj in London and the east Midlands area. In 2004 she decided to focus more on making her own music, which led to her first release as Serendipity on the net label from Berlin’s Mixomat Recordings in 2008. She has since had subsequent releases both on vinyl and mp3. She has developed a deep, grooving sound of her own that is influenced by UK and Europe’s independent electronic sound of the 90’s, combined with her love for early Chicago and UK house, as well as Detroit techno.
With their productions and mixes, they bring together a journey of ideas from within the underground electronic music realm, and beyond. 2DeepSoul is about moving the dance floor while at the same time creating a deep atmosphere.
